Lapel Pins
Lapel Pin Manufacturing Methods |

Cloisonné
|
Cloisonné pins
is the fine-art tradition of glass enameling, it started
in China centuries age. The pins are made from hand-prouing
powdered glass into the recesses of a die-struck (stamped)
brass base. The brass can be plated in gold, silver, or
nickel. After being baked at a very high temperature, the
glass enamel is sanded and polished to be flush with the
metal lines that separate the colors. This gives the pins
a smooth and lustrous quality. |

Epola
|
Epola pins are
made using the same technique as the cloisonné, but the
recessed spaces are filled with a hard epoxy enamel rather
than glass. The Epola filling gives a beautiful, high quality
look similar to that of the cloisonné, but at a lower price
and with Pantone color options. Gold, silver or nickel plated.
So on. |
Die-Struck Soft Enamel
|
For
a less expensive version of our Epola pin that has the same
look and PMS color options, try the Die-Struck Soft Enamel.
With this style, a soft enamel is painted into the recesses
of the brass die-struck base, leaving a relief effect that
lets you feel the die-struck pattern, Gold, silver or nickel
plated. Add a clear epoxy dome for long-lasting durability
and a shiny, finished look. |

Die-Struck
|
The basic die-struck
pin gives a classic dimensional look without adding much color.
It is made from either brass or steel that is stamped with
the pin design and cut out. The metal base is then plated
with gold, silver or nickel, and can be antiqued, sandblasted,
or simply polished. |

Printed
|
The screen-printing
or offset printing is an excellent choice for color pins
with small details, Your artwork is perfectly reproduced
onto a shaped metal base without the need for metal lines
separating the PMS colors, Add a clear epoxy dome for durability
and a shiny, finished look. |
Frequently Asked Questions |
Question: How do I get a quote on a pin?
Answer: Email us with the artwork and specifications of the pin. Please note that the minimum quantity on a pin order is 100 peices. Our sales department will quote your order based off of the specifications. You may also call us to discuss the design however without the artwork and specifications we may not be able to quote your job over the phone. |
Question: How long will it take to make my pin?
Answer: This will depend on the printing method and the quantity. However, most orders take approximately 10 - 14 days to complete and ship. Large orders are not a problem either. We have produced orders of over 50,000 pins on a single order in less than 30 days. |
Question: What is an average price for a pin?
Answer: For this question let’s use the example to the right. This pin is a typical badge style lapel pin. The manufacturing process is Die Struck with Hard Enamel Color. We also refer to this as Epola or Cloisonné. When you run your finger over the colored area you will not feel much difference in the surface since the metal and color are at the same level. On a pin filled with soft enamel you may feel that the colored are is recessed a little.
An estimated cost for a pin this size (1" high) would be between $1.89 - $3.29 ea. depending on the quantity. |
 |
Question: Where are the pins made?
Answer: Several of our products are made right here in house. However, most pins are made overseas or thru larger pin manufacturers in the U.S. that sell only to resellers of promotional products like Richmond Designs. |
